Bridgwater Town Conservatives elect new Leadership Team
The Conservative group of Councillors on Bridgwater Town Council last night unanimously agreed to elect Wyndham Councillor Gill Slocombe as Group Leader and Fairfax East Councillor Diogo Rodrigues as Deputy Leader.
Newly elected group leader Cllr Slocombe is pleased to take on this new role within the reinvigorated Conservative Town Council group and says, “Although we are the official opposition on the Town Council it is absolutely within the interest of all our residents that we work constructively with the leading group where we can find common interest. It is also within the interest of our residents that we scrutinise where scrutiny is called for and hold the leading group to account when we feel there are improvements to be made or failings to be answered for” She added, “I’m looking forward to bringing forward my years of extensive local government knowledge to best represent the residents of our town”.
Councillor Slocombe is also the Deputy Leader of Sedgemoor District Council and added, “Bridgwater is already in line to receive up to £25M from Government for the Towns Fund to regenerate the town and we are ready to work with councillors across the board to unleash Bridgwater’s potential”
Former Bridgwater Mayor Councillor Rodrigues, who was elected Deputy Group leader, added “I’m thankful to my Conservative colleagues who have put their trust in me and I look forward to working closely with Councillors to get the best outcome for our residents in Bridgwater”
He says, “The Conservative Party of today are creating the right environment to allow people to flourish through their talent and hard work whilst dealing with the issues that matter to working people, your Conservative Bridgwater Town Councillors are at the forefront”
He added, “The tide is turning. We are the voice of working people across Bridgwater”
